RYA POWERBOAT COURSES
The RYA Powerboat Scheme meets the training needs of recreational and professional powerboat operators alike. Whether you’re an amateur with a keen sense of adventure or use powerboats as part of your job, the RYA Powerboat Scheme will train you in all aspects of safe boat handling and navigation. Adopted by many countries, RYA powerboat courses are the most popular in the world, a Level 2 course can include your International Certificate of Competency (ICC).
Level 1, Start Powerboating
Minimum age 8 years old
Endorsements
Persons aged 8-15 years can only use powered craft under the supervision of a responsible adult who has a Powerboat Level 2 certificate.
Details:
Provides a practical introduction to boat handling and safety in powerboats. It covers boating techniques for preparation of boat and crew, boat handling, picking up and securing to a mooring buoy, leaving, and coming alongside a pontoon, person- overboard (theory), launching and recovering a boat launching trailer
This is a one-day introduction to Powerboating with no previous experience required. The course is taught in our range of RIB’s with both centre console controls and tiller steer and also our positive displacement Champ vessel.
On completion of the course, you should be able to handle a powerboat safely under supervision and will be given the certificate for planing craft with coastal endorsement.
Our courses generally have between 3 participants. They can take place both at weekends and weekdays. Times and dates to be arranged.
Cost includes RYA Start Powerboating (G48) and Powerboat Logbook (G20)

Level 2 Powerboat Handling
Minimum age 12 years old

The RYA Level 2 certificate is the standard generally accepted by insurance companies and boat hire firms and can be converted to an International Certificate of Competence (ICC) for use abroad. It provides the skills and background knowledge needed by the competent powerboat driver and aims to teach boat handling and seamanship in small powerboats, focusing on low speed close quarters handling, person overboard recovery, an introduction to driving at planing speed, and collision regulations (IRPCS)
This is a two-day course (8 hours per day 16 overall) No previous experience is necessary, on successful completion of the course you should be able to handle a powerboat safely in familiar waters by day and will be issued with the certificate for planing craft and displacement vessel. The course is taught in our range of RIB’s with both centre console controls and tiller steer and also our positive displacement Champ vessel.
Our courses are for 3 participants. They can take place both at weekends and weekdays.

SAFETY BOAT
Minimum age 16 years old
Eligibility
RYA Level 2 powerboat handling
Safety boat course is designed to techniques required when rescuing small craft. It is useful for those wishing to work at a water sports centre professionally or to assist with rescue cover at their sailing club and is also a pre-requisite for the RYA Senior Instructor course.
The two-day course provides the skills required when acting as an escort craft, safety boat or coach boat for a fleet of dinghies, windsurfers, or canoes, or for racing or training activities. It includes rescue techniques and elements of race management and mark laying
It is strongly recommended that a member of the rescue crew should hold a first aid certificate (or should have experience of first aid).

The course will cover preparation, boat handling, dinghy rescue, windsurfer rescue, kayak or canoe rescue, towing, end-of-day procedures, safety, suitability of craft, communication, rescuing other water users
